OVERVIEW

This project was part of a product design studio class, where I collaborated with two other team members to redesign a cable organizer. Our final product involved crafting an irregularly shaped organizer designed to conceal and manage messy wires effectively for the user. We presented our prototype to the class at the end of our semester.

About the Project

Throughout this project, I predominantly utilized Adobe Illustrator to develop the design, which I later translated into a physical prototype through laser cutting and assembly.

There is often a common frustration revolving around messy and cluttered wires in our daily lives. People consistently encounter the inconvenience and frustration of managing tangled wires and cables, presenting a recurring challenge in their daily routines.

Design Process

The Goal

Redesign a cable organizer that meets the user needs and expectations to solve the painpoint of messy wires.

USER RESEARCH

We started off by conducting user interviews to learn more about user’s experience with their tangly wires. We found out that

  • Wires sometimes hang around on the floor which is very annoying and frustrating

  • It takes up a lot of space with the wires all over the space

  • Some users want an aesthetically pleasing organizer while others don’t want the wires to be seen at all, emphasizing functionality over aesthetics.

01. The detachable lid that hides the loops or hook wires & serve as a wall decoration.

02. This acts as the base, the loop the wires around the cord holders in m shaped.

03. This cloud accessories allows extra wires to be loop around on the end of the organizer. It can also be portable to wrap your wires around and bring it with you.
